Mumbai police summon CSK chief executive

The IPL crisis has taken a new twist with Mumbai Police summoning the Chennai Super Kings chief executive, Gurunath Meiyappan, to its Crime Branch for questioning in connection with betting. He was asked to appear between 11 am and 5 pm on Friday but it is understood that Meiyappan has sought an extension until 11 am on Monday.

The news is embarrassing - and potentially damaging - for the IPL and its parent body the BCCI, given that Meiyappan is the son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan, whose company India Cements owns the Super Kings franchise.

Kevin O'Brien secures Ireland dramatic tie

Ireland 275 for 5 (Stirling 103, O'Brien 84*) tied with Pakistan 266 for 5 (Hafeez 122*, Shafiq 84) (D/L method)

His fans have come to expect thunderous innings and Kevin O'Brien didn't let them down, with his 84 off 47 balls seizing a tie for Ireland against Pakistan in the first of two ODIs at Clontarf.

Ireland's cricket resurgence was sparked by beating Pakistan at the 2007 World Cup, when Trent Johnston and O'Brien saw them home at Sabina Park. The same pair were at the wicket with 13 needed off three balls here, when O'Brien hit Saeed Ajmal for six and two, before the last ball sped for four to leave them one run short of their Duckworth-Lewis-adjusted target.

Kolkata Knight Riders look for repeat

"We can do a CSK" is the line coming out of the Kolkata Knight Riders' camp. However, in contrast to the consistent performances from more than one player that took Chennai Super Kings to consecutive titles in 2010 and 2011, Knight Riders have their shortcomings, evident during their dismal run during last year's Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa, where they earned a solitary (and irrelevant) victory before making an exit.

Annoyingly for Knight Riders, the difficult questions continue to persist.
